In 55 days, 21 hours, 24 minutes and 2 seconds I will be heading out on a wild adventure. Needless to say I am extremely excited about this fantastic opportunity. Friends daily ask for the countdown and laugh when I reply eagerly without pausing for breath.
So, what adventure is this small town girl going on? A safari!
In Swahili the word safari means trip or journey. This safari is going to take me 11 hours into the future to Tanzania from January 6 to May 10, 2012. Over the course of the trip I will be staying in Arusha, Dar es Salaam, and Bagamoyo. We will also be on the Island of Zanzibar for a month. While over there I will be taking Whitworth University classes in history, political science, education and theology. At the State University of Zanizabar (SUZA) I will be enrolled in a Swahili course. For the majority of the time I will be staying with host families. I will be partnered with another Whitworth student and placed in a local family's home to stay. I am really looking forward to meeting new people and learning how they live their lives.
Although this trip doesn't start for another month and a half, I wanted to create this blog for family and friends like you to start learning what I will be doing where. Let me know if there is anything you are particularly interested in. I am already planning on putting some research information about where I will be going soon.
